How does teeth whitening work?
Teeth can lose their brightness for a number of reasons, such as diet, ageing, certain medications, smoking and trauma. Teeth whitening is a gentle chemical process used to reduce discolouration and lighten teeth, resulting in a brighter smile.
At M20, we use Boutique whitening, a tried and tested professional system. It uses custom-made whitening trays and a specialised whitening gel to break down stains and dramatically enhance the appearance of your teeth.

Treatment steps to your brighter smile
- Firstly, we examine your teeth and gums to ensure they are healthy and suitable for whitening treatment. We take digital impressions of your teeth so your customised whitening trays can be produced
- When your whitening trays are ready, we make sure they are a snug and comfortable fit. We show you how to use them with the Boutique whitening gel, and give you some advice for your treatment at home.
- It is then over to you! Simply wear your whitening trays for a specified length of time each day for 2-3 weeks. The beauty of home treatment is you can choose exactly when and where you whiten your teeth!
- Once your treatment is complete, we see you for a follow-up appointment. We check your teeth and make sure you are happy with your results. All that’s left is for you to enjoy your new sparkling smile!

Internal teeth whitening
If one of your teeth has become discoloured following root canal treatment, we can use internal whitening to improve its overall appearance. During a root canal, the innermost part of the tooth (the pulp) is removed and replaced with a rubber filling, which can sometimes cause your tooth to look less white.
With internal whitening, the lightening product is inserted into a drilled hole, and then sealed with a temporary filling. Around a week later, the filling and bleach are removed and, if necessary, the process is repeated. When the ideal shade has been achieved, the hole is permanently sealed with a tooth-coloured filling.
